I’ve been looking into the lives of remarkable women in botany and found empowering and inspirational stories! Here is the first one I’d like to share with you:
Anna Atkins (1799-1871) was an English botanist who is often considered the first woman ever to have taken a photograph. She pursued her love for plants throughout her life and published the very first book illustrated with photographs (cyanotypes). I particularly love her beautiful prints of algae and ferns and tried to mimic those in my illustration.
